Entry Information
1. Sending Entries. Entries must be completed and either federally postmarked by certified mail no later than Friday, October 17, 2003, or hand-delivered by 4:00 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2003. No FAXed or e-mailed entries will be accepted. Mail or deliver to: Dan Grossman, Meet Director, Thetford Academy, Academy Road, PO Box 190, Thetford, VT 05074. Call Dan Grossman at (802) 649-1234 (Days) or (802) 785-4074 (Evenings) before hand delivering.
If you want to be sure your entry arrives, request a return receipt for your certified mail.
2. Eligibility to Compete. In order to compete in either the Vermont Championship or the Challenge Race, a student must have competed in a minimum of four VPA-sanctioned meets between the start of school and the day before the Championship. Meets between or among VPA members needs no specific sanction. Meets involving out-of-state schools or meets outside of Vermont generally need a specific VPA sanction.
If a student has not competed in four meets before the date on which entries are due, list dates in which the student will compete between the entry date and the Championship. Coaches are expected to withdraw their student from competition if they do not compete in all four meets.
The reason for the four-meet eligibility rule is to ensure that students competing in the Championship are bona fide members of their school's cross-country team. The rule is not related to the student's conditioning.
3. Get Entry Form. Download or print an entry form.
4. School Information. Fill in all of the information requested about school, coaches, and athletic director. Having phone and FAX numbers for the school and AD are especially useful when questions or problems arise. Click for Rules about Uniforms.
5. Eligibility Column. List the four dates on which each athlete competed in VPA-sanctioned races to show their eligibility. This column requires dates.
6. Athletes' Names. Fill in students' names, class year (in numbers) and sex. Please check spelling of names. We often see the name of the same athlete spelled differently from entry to entry.
7. Do Not Specify Race. All students from a school are eligible to compete in either the Championship for their division or the Challenge Race. Only seven runners from a school may compete in the Championship. There is no need to specify the race in which a student will compete.
8. Fees. Any number of girls in both races - $35. Any number of boys in both races - $35. Make checks payable to Thetford Academy. Entries will not be accepted without a check for the fees. Please do
n't send entry fees separately.9. Principal's Certification. The Vermont Principals' Association requires that the principal or head of school of competing schools sign the certification at the bottom of the entry form. DO NOT have the certification signed by a coach or by the athletic director.
10 Questions. If you have questions, e-mail Dan Grossman at dan@dg123.com, which he prefers, or call him at (802) 649-1234 (Days) or (802) 785-4074 (Evenings.)
